Help GB Softball with Olympic crowdfunding

Wed 14 Jun 2017

The crowdfunding website set up by the GB Women and Under-19 Women's Fastpitch Teams to help the programme qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo has been extended until 9 August.

The target has been set at £10,000, and the  money raised will be used to help players from these two teams train and compete together more often before a Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifying Tournament expected to be held in the summer of 2019, as well as taking part in European and World Championship tournaments over the next two years.

Unlike the other top softball nations against whom we compete, the British Softball Federation receives no government or other external funding for our national team programmes, and most of the costs of competing for their country are met by players and their families.  They will struggle to support the costs of additional trips for training camps and competition, and that's why the teams need help.

And Olympic qualification for GB Softball is not just a pipedream.

The GB Under-19 Women's Team won the European Junior Championship last year, and the GB Senior Women's Team played on level terms at the World Championship last year against top-five countries such as Canada, Chinese Taipei and Japan.  To qualify for the Olympics, Great Britain will need to defeat the best teams in Europe, and given the players currently in our programme, that is a hard but achievable goal.

It will be an easier goal if we can prepare the team properly.

The crowdfunding campaign will close at the end of July.  Please help our teams achieve their target by donating and by sending the link below to as many people as possible that you think might be willing to offer support.  The link is:

GB qualification for the 2020 Olympics will be of huge benefit to softball in this country -- fastpitch and slowpitch alike -- by raising the public profile of the sport and attracting many more players.  We hope that the whole softball community can get behind this effort.
