Chalfont Softball Club seeks paid Head Coach

Wed 20 Feb 2013

Chalfont Softball Club from the Windsor and Maidenhead Softball League is looking for a paid Head Coach for the 2013 season to enhance the quality of training sessions and coach education at the club.

Building on success

The 2012 season was a very successful one for Chalfont.  The club's first team, the Phoenix, finished as Division 1 champions in the Windsor League; the second team, the Flames, was very competitive in their first season in Division 1; and the third team, the Firebirds, finished a very respectable second in Division 2.

The club also ran B-grade and C-grade tournament teams, an adult fastpitch team and a well-attended schedule of training sessions.

Improved coaching

But the club committee, coaches and captains are always looking for ways to improve the club on and off the field, and following meetings over the winter, it has been decided that the club would benefit from more regular training sessions planned and delivered by a single Head Coach.

Previously, the club has rotated its six qualified coaches in delivering fortnightly training sessions.   But the hope is that using a paid Head Coach will ensure continuity from session to session, improve an already high standard of sessions for its members and take a major workload off the club's volunteer player-coaches.

The ultimate aim is to increase the standard of play among the Chalfont teams, and also to enhance the knowledge and ability of club coaches.

The club would expect a paid Head Coach to take on the following responsibilities:

  • Planning for all training sessions, both during the season and in pre-season.
  • Delivery of all training sessions, utilising the club's player-coaches as assistants.
  • Chairing fortnightly club selection meetings to ensure all players are given opportunities to progress within the club.
  • Monitoring the form and availability of players by watching the club's league games.
  • Running a "Learn to Score" night for club members.

The club expects to offer a salary of around £1000, paid over a six-month period, to the applicant selected as Head Coach.

Challenging Year

2013 promises to be an exciting but challenging year for Chalfont Softball Club.

The Phoenix have a title to defend and, along with the Flames, have qualified for National Championships at the end of the season.  The Firebirds want to challenge again for their division title.  And the club has already committed to moving grounds and at some point during the season will have the new facilities that BSUK has built at Farnham Park to call home.

Application details

The Chalfont Softball Club committee would welcome enquiries with regard to the new paid position of Head Coach.  Please email for more information and a full description of the role.

The deadline for applications will be Friday, March 8, to allow an appointment to be made by Friday, March 29 in time for the start of outdoor pre-season training.
