BSF League Nationals to feature 18 teams

Tue 8 Aug 2017

The BSF’s Co-ed Slowpitch National Championships for league teams will be played this coming weekend, 12-13 August, at Farnham Park, with 18 teams playing for medals in Gold, Silver and Bronze divisions.

The 18 teams will play an initial round-robin in three groups on Saturday, after which they will split into Gold (the top two teams in each group), Silver (the third and fourth-placed teams in each group) and Bronze (the fifth and sixth-placed teams in each group) for playoffs on Sunday.

While last year’s Gold winners, the Dodgers West from the Solent League, have been playing in NSL 2 this year, both last year’s Silver winners (Oxford Angels) and Bronze winners (Crosby Vikings) are back in the League Nationals mix this year.

Round-robin groups

The three initial round-robin groups on Saturday will be:

Mavericks 2 (Manchester)
Fuzzy Ducks (GLSML)
Hornets (Milton Keynes)
Chichester Falcons (Solent)
Spartans (London Ad League)
Tigers (East Midlands)

Pyros (East Midlands)
Knicks (Solent)
Formby Fins (Sefton)
Game of Throws (GLSML)
Foxes (London Ad League)
Coyotes (Leeds)

Crosby Vikings (Sefton)
Masterbatters (Leeds)
Angels (Oxford)
Spitfires (Solent)
Mouse Rat (GLSML)
Rebels (Windsor)

On Sunday, the teams will divide into Gold, Silver and Bronze groups as described above, with results from Saturday carried over, and each team will play a further two games against teams from other first-round pools to determine standings in these second-round groups.

At the business end of the day, third will play sixth in each group and the winner will play the second-place finisher in one semi-final, while fourth will play fifth and the winner will play the first-place finisher in the other semi-final.

Then the Bronze and Silver finals will be played at around 3.15 pm, followed by the Gold final at 4.30.

Spectators of course are welcome at one of the season’s top slowpitch events to enjoy the softball and the food and hospitality at the Home Plate Bar and Kitchen
