GB Management Committee puts new members to work

The GB Management Committee (GBMC), a semi-autonomous arm of the BSF that oversees and makes policy for softball national teams, has had an influx of new members from across the softball community who have responded to a website plea to provide much-needed support for national team staff.

Softball to be showcased at the Brentwood Games

Slowpitch softball will be one of the sports to be showcased at the Brentwood Games on Sunday 14 April, an annual event where Brentwood area residents get the chance to sample different games and are hopefully inspired to start playing.

Volunteers sought for GB Softball roles

The GB Management Committee (GBMC), founded in 2009, is a group of coaches, team managers and administrators who make policy decisions and provide oversight for softball national team programmes. In order to provide more support for national teams, the GBMC is looking for volunteers to carry out a number of operational roles that will help national team managers and coaches concentrate on their primary tasks of preparing teams for competition and achieving success at tournaments overseas.

Young British players get a taste of the Major Leagues

Nearly 200 young players got a personal taste of Major League Baseball on Saturday, 17 November when the 3rd annual European Big League Tour came to London for the first time and Major League players spent the day instructing at clinics, signing autographs and answering questions at the London Soccerdome.

Softball featured at Greater Manchester Sports Awards

Softball and baseball both had a presence at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards that took place on Friday evening, November 9 at the Lancashire County Cricket Club at Old Trafford, with more than 500 people in attendance. BSUK was one of the event sponsors, and while no awards went to either of our sports, they were prominent during the evening.

Two distinguished Northern representatives from baseball and softball – Liverpool Trojans stalwart Norman Wells and Manchester Softball League Chair Harry Somers – were nominated by Sport England as Olympic torch bearers when the torch passed through the North West. Registration now open for Great Britain Fastpitch League

The Great Britain Fastpitch League is now inviting individual player registration by both youth and adult players for the 2012 season. The league will have adult, Under-17 and Under-14 divisions and will play on six Saturdays in May, June, July and August at Richings Park Sports Club in Iver, Bucks, not far from Heathrow Airport.

Softball and baseball to have Olympic Torch Bearers

Manchester Softball League Head Harry Somers and Merseyside baseball legend Norman Wells have been selected as two of the 8,000 people who will carry the Olympic Torch throughout the country next year before it reaches its place of honour in Olympic Park.
