Manchester Softball ready to start the season

Softball in Manchester got off to its now-customary mid-April start with the Manchester Firstball Tournament, held on 12-13 April at Parrs Wood School. The league season starts the day after Easter Monday with a new format for all four divisions, with no mid-season split between Divisions 1 and 2 as in the past.

London Sports provides a partner for GB Softball

Every year, over 120 girls descend on the fields at Wormwood Scrubs in West London to play softball from late April through June as part of the London Sports Girls' Softball League, and this league is proving to be a rich source of players and competition opportunities for the GB Under-13 programme.

One place left in East Midlands First Ball Tournament

There is a place for just one more team in the traditional season-opening co-ed slowpitch tournament, the East Midlands First Ball, scheduled for Sunday 6 April at Charnwood College in Loughborough.

BSF coaching scheme announced for 2014

The BSF has once again asked GB Slowpitch Team Manager Sara Vertigan to assemble a team of coaches from the GB squad to help B-grade and C-grade teams seeking to 'up their game' in 2014.

The first competitive game of 2014?

Could this have been the first competitive outdoor softball game of the 2014 season? On Thursday 30 January, a team from the Swindon Softball League took on trainee officers from the Defence Academy in Shrivenham in temperatures of 2 degrees C, and the Swindon team eventually won by 31-10.

Sefton Softball League adopts Guide Dogs charity

The new Sefton Softball League has announced that its nominated charity for 2014 will be Guide Dogs for the Blind. Over the course of the coming season, the league will be holding fundraising events with the goal of raising enough money to train a new dog.

National Kickball Day to raise funds for GB Teams

The BSF has designated Sunday 4 May as National Kickball Day. With no other tournaments or events on the calendar that day, the BSF is asking as many softball leagues or teams as possible to run local Kickball Tournaments to raise money for their league and for national teams.

Birmingham Softball League is here to stay!

2013 was the first season for the new Birmingham Softball League (BSL) and while it was hard work for those doing the organisation, with inevitable teething problems and a team folding half way through the season, the league managed to run successfully for 15 weeks.

Last call for Awards and Hall nominations

The BSF Executive has issued a last call for nominations for the annual awards it will present at the 2014 BSF AGM in February and for candidates to be inducted to the BSF Hall of Fame. The deadline for nominations is 31 December.

Wide-ranging discussions at the League Heads Forum

The annual BSF Softball League Heads Forum convened on Saturday 16 November in Birmingham and discussed a wide range of topics relevant to slowpitch softball, including umpiring, safeguarding, registration and insurance, preferred suppliers, development and National Championships.
