New GB Men out-slug the old guys

The 2013 GB Men's Fastpitch Team took on past members of the GB Team on 27 February in Auckland -- including a handful of players (Steve Jackson, Steve Tau, Clive Evan, Roger Marshman) from the team that played at ISF World Championships when they were last held in New Zealand in 2004 in Christchurch -- and the new team came out on top.

GB Men work their way towards Auckland

The GB Men's Fastpitch Team assembled in Sydney on February 20 and 21 for training and warm-up games in Australia, then moved on to Auckland, New Zealand on February 25 for more training and games before they open the ISF Men's Fastpitch World Championships on Friday morning, March 1 at 9.30 am (8.30 pm on Thursday evening British time) with a game against Samoa.

BSF AGM votes for separate Premier Nationals

A final decision on the shape of Co-ed Slowpitch National Championships for the coming season was made at the 2013 BSF AGM on Saturday, February 23 in Watford, ending several months of uncertainty. Members voted to keep the Premier Nationals separate from the Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze Nationals for one more year – though the BSF plans to combine them all in one weekend event in 2014 and beyond.

Guernsey Slowpitch Open returns for 2013

The three-day Guernsey Co-ed Open Slowpitch Tournament will be played on the May Bank Holiday this year after a two-year hiatus, and teams from the British mainland will be more than welcome.

Fans in the UK can watch every game played by the GB Men's Fastpitch Team at the World Championships in New Zealand through both web streaming and live scoring updates. The GB Team will open the tournament at 10.30 pm British time on Friday night, March 1 with a game against Samoa.

Softball Canada to bid for 2016 ISF Women’s World Championships

Softball Canada will bid to host the 2016 ISF Women's World Championships, and if successful, the tournament will be played at Softball City in Surrey, British Columbia, home of the Canadian Open Fastpitch Championships (formerly the Canada Cup).

Support for slowpitch at the ESF Congress

Andre van Overbeek from Holland, who has been a consistent supporter of slowpitch during his time as ESF President, was re-elected for another four-year term at the ESF Congress held from February 14-16 in Bled, Slovenia. In another boost for slowpitch, John Austin from Ireland was elected as one of six Vice Presidents on the ESF Executive.
