    September tournament caps successful season for new softball teams in the North West

    BSUK’s project to create new adult slowpitch softball teams in the North West region this year led to three new teams and two successful tournaments, one in August and one at the end of September.

    GB Academies and National Teams move to Milton Keynes

    The increasingly dilapidated training centre at Upper Heyford, the home for baseball and softball Academies and national team training since the late 1990s, was abandoned last April. Now a new home for indoor winter training has been found by BSUK in Milton Keynes, at the MK Dons Academy Dome at Woughton on the Green. And the move to Milton Keynes may be part of a larger-scale development for baseball and softball.

    Summing up the GB Fastpitch summer

    Four GB Fastpitch teams—the GB Women, GB Junior (Under-19) Men, GB Junior (Under-19) Women and GB (Under-16) Cadette Girls—took part in important competitions overseas this summer, while the GB Minime (Under-13) Girls got a bit of competition experience during a weekend in Holland. How did they do, and what do their results say about the progress that GB Fastpitch is making at home and on the international stage?

    Ten-team slowpitch tournament held in Austria

    An example of increasing slowpitch activity in Europe was seen on the weekend of September 24-25 when a ten-team slowpitch tournament, the Linz Slowpitch Cup, was held in the city of Linz, Austria.

    Beginners’ softball programmes established at Manchester universities

    A well-resourced and well-researched Softball 4 Beginners programme will be run by BSUK at two universities in Manchester this autumn thanks to support from Sport England, Greater Sports, Manchester City Council and the universities themselves.

    In memory of Chris Stephens

    Last Saturday, 17 September 2011, Chris Stephens, long-standing pitcher for Mojo and SPAM, died at the John Radcliffe hospital in Milton Keynes six weeks after his aorta had burst. He was 66 years old.

    Fastpitch League plays out final games in Norfolk

    The London Fastpitch Softball League (LFSL) played its final day of competition for 2011 in Fakenham, Norfolk on Saturday, September 17. Even though not all teams attended, winners were declared in the different divisions and the teams that will play in Europe next year were decided.
